National days of the week 1/2 – 1/6

There is a national day each and every day of the year. Here are the national days for this week.

Monday: National Buffet Day

Buffet tables were originated during the middle of the 16th century. It was in the second part of the 20th century when the word buffet became popular in the English speaking world. The term buffet originally referred to the French sideboard furniture where food was served from.

Tuesday: National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day

In England in the 1700’s, cherries were enclosed in chocolate with a little kirsch liqueur. Although originally made with the liqueur, chocolate covered cherries are more commonly made with a sugar syrup flavored with cherries.

Wednesday: National Trivia Day

The word “trivia” is plural for the word “trivium”. In ancient times, the term “trivia” was appropriated to mean something very new. In North America, the game “Trivial Pursuit” peaked in 1984, a year in which over 20 million games were sold.

Thursday: National Bird Day

National bird day is one of several designated “holidays” celebrating birds. There are approximately 10,000 species of birds. In 2002, Born Free USA in coordination with the Avian Welfare Coalition launched the first annual National Bird Day.

Friday: National Technology Day

Tech jobs are one of the strongest and fastest growing sectors. One area of the tech world that continues to advance and affect our lives is apps. StoAmigo, a technology based company headquartered in Las Vegas, founded National Technology Day.
