Track compete in the Gulf Coast Relays

The Girls track team traveled to Brazosport Friday, March 20th to compete in the Gulf Coast Relays. The Longhorns sealed the win scoring 305.5 points which is the most scored in a meet from the Longhorns this season. Starting off in field events, Caitlin Tran scored 5th in the girls Pole vault. In High Jump Samantha Chartier and Alexis Thomas placed fifth and sixth. In Triple Jump, Lisa Egege, Alexis White and Chaya Oliver went second, third and fourth, together scoring 18 points in that one event. Geordann Yelder placed second and Alexis Woods placed fourth in girls Long Jump.Heading into the running events the girls swept all 3 relays. Jasmine Tilford-Rutherford, Kearah Nails, Lisa Egege and Geordann Yelder were a part of the 4×100 relay. Chigozie Ogbonna, Chidube Ogbonna, Kearah Nails and Jazmyne Tilford Rutherford were part of the 4×200 relay. Kandice Miles, Chigozie Ogbonna, Geordann Yelder and Lisa Egege were a part of the 4×400 relay.

In our individual events, Abisola Anifowoshe placed second running a personal best in the 100 meter hurdles and Alexis Thomas placed sixth. In the 100 meter dash, Lisa Egege placed second and Chidube Ogbonna placed third. In the 400 Geordann Yelder placed fourth, Kandice Miles fifth and Destiny Rutherford sixth. In the 300 meter hurdles, Alexis Thomas ran a personal best and placed second overall, and Dominique Jean-Batiste placed sixth overall. Closing out the scores in the individual events was Jazmyne Tilford Rutherford placing second in the girls 200, Chigozie Ogbonna placed fourth and Chidube Ogbonna placed fifth. The girls will compete at the 88th annual Texas Relays on March 28.

 

The Boys track team also traveled to Brazosport  to compete in the Gulf Coast Relays. The Longhorns sealed the win scoring 325.5 points which is the most scored in a meet from the Longhorns this season. Starting off in field events, Tylen Guidry won the Triple jump with a leap of 44ft 9in, LeRoy Franklin Place 4th in the Triple jump with a jump of 41’7in. Guidry also won the long jump with a leap of 20’11.5 inches and second place was Xavian Marks with a leap of 20’11 inches. In the High jump Torin Marks took second place with a school record jump of 6’2in. Third place was Kerin Martin, who tied his season best jump of 6’0. Micheal Bottego placed 4th in the Shot Put with a throw of 46′ 2 inches. In the Pole Vault Jacob Adair place 2nd with a season best vault of 13ft. Bottego also took 4th in the Discus.

Now, onto the track. In the 800m run Jacob Triesch took first place with a time of 2:01. Jacob Nava placed 4th with a time of 2:06. The 4×200 relay took 2nd place that team consist of Byron Clark, Ben Willis, Miakil Uno and Jarien Mcvea. The boys 4×100 relay took first place with a season best time of 42.37 seconds That team consisted of Tylen Guidry, Reggie Solomon, Xavian Marks and Marcellus Baker. Torin Marks took second and set a personal best in the 400m dash with a time of 50.77, and Fred Carr took Third with a time of 51.45. Alec Waldschmidt took 2nd in the 3200 with a time of 10:04. Alex Sims took 4th in the 3200 with a time of 10:37. In the 300 Hurdles LeRoy Franklin took 3rd with a time of 42.21. Franklin also took 4th in the 110 hurdles. Byron Clark took 4th in the 200m with a time of 23.25. Alec Waldschmidt and Jacob Nava Placed 4th and 5th in the 1600. Xavian Marks won the 100m dash with a season best of 10.70. The Boys will compete at the 88th annual Texas Relays March 28.
