Infinity

Infinity

I have to admit: I have been waiting  since I started writing for newspaper, to write an article about One Direction. I’ve loved them since I was in eighth grade and am now a senior. And with the release of their newest single, “Infinity”, I knew that I couldn’t wait any longer.

I was sitting in class on September 22nd, 2015, minding my own business, working hard. I didn’t have my phone out because the room I was in didn’t have strong signal. So when one of my fellow fans came running up to me in the hallway, I couldn’t imagine why.

She was talking so quickly that it took me a minute to realize that she was trying to tell me that One Direction had released a new single, that it was on Spotify, and that their album would come out November 13, 2015. When I finally understood her, I may have shrieked a little.

I was on my way to lunch, so when I got to my table I immediately informed my friends of this ground-breaking news. My exclamation was met with some blank stares, and a few of them looked like they were concerned for my mental health. So I figured it would best to try and find it on my phone instead of trying to convince my friends of the gravity of the situation.

As I was trying to find the audio, I realized that the Wi-Fi signal was too weak for me to download Spotify. I tried not to panic and searched Twitter for a video with the song. Finally, after about 20 minutes, I found someone who had tweeted a video. I got out my headphones and pressed play. When the first chord started, I felt like I was near passing out.

Now I tend to think that One Direction’s newest song will always be my favorite song ever written, but “Infinity” is different. The lyrics are beautiful, the chords echoed in my ears clearly, and the vocals gave me chills. Anytime something new would happen I would be physically shocked, because it was so good!

The bell rang, and I had to get to jazz band. I faintly recognized that one of my friends was trying to talk to me, but what she was saying didn’t register. I was still floating my way to class trying to comprehend the perfection that was “Infinity”.

When I got home at seven, I went straight for the computer and pre-ordered their album, Made in the A.M.. I looked up the lyrics to their single, put them to the side of the screen, and started “studying.” I ended up staring at the lyrics and listening to my new favorite song all night.

Now here I am writing this article while listening to the best song ever made, on repeat. I can truly say, without exaggeration, that I have listened to this song at least 100 times since noon yesterday. I’m still not over how amazing this song is, and it gets better every time I listen to it. I hear new harmonies and different beats each time it starts again.

I would like to share this experience with everyone; go listen to this song. Put all prejudices out of your mind for the four minutes and nine seconds that the song plays. Listen to the words, to their clear, strong voices, and fall in love with One Direction. (But, whatever you do, don’t look up ‘One Direction Funniest Moments’ on YouTube. You’ll be sucked into this fandom and be stuck here FOREVER.)
