  1. Frozen won Disney its first Oscar since Tarzan. The scene where Elsa walks out on her ice palace’s balcony took 132 hours to complete 218 frames and was the film’s longest frame to animate.
  2. In Beauty and the Beast, the stained glass window in the prologue has a Latin phrase reading ‘Vincit Qui Se Vincit’, which means ‘He conquers, who conquers himself’. This is a foreshadowing of the story arc to come.
  3. In The Little Mermaid, Ursula’s personality and design came from an unlikely source for a Disney animation, a drag queen named Devine.
  4. The last shot completed in The Little Mermaid was Ariel reaching up through the skylight of her grotto. It took four attempts to get the optical effects perfect.
  5. All of Snow White’s blush was done by hand. For a more natural look, some ink and paint artists used their own rouge. When Walt Disney asked how they did it so well, they responded “What do you think we’ve been doing all our lives?”
