BASKETBALL:  The Freshmen A Boys Basketball team defeated the Terry Rangers 56-42. The team was led by great play from Dalon Dean, EJ Brumfield and Peter Mgpai. The Freshmen B Boys Basketball team defeated the Terry Rangers on Friday, January 15. The team was led by great play inside from Walker Hale. The JV B Boys Basketball team fell to the Terry Rangers on Friday night. The team was led by Brayden Mcknight and Ord Limbrick. The JV Boys Basketball team fell to the Terry Rangers 61-60 on a buzzer beater. The team was led by Damien Gaston, Matthew Burger and Sunny Ozoh. The Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up a big road win against the Terry Rangers 49-41. After being down by 8 in the 4th quarter, the team came storming back to take over the game. The team was led by Quintin Morris with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Chris Oliver and Marvis Odia led the team with great defense all night. The team takes on Lamar on the road on Tuesday night.

BASEBALL:  If you are interested in trying out for the Longhorn Baseball team please stop by room 2316 and speak with Coach Gazaway. Deadline to do so is January 27th. Tryouts are February 1st-3rd.

CHEER:  The cheerleaders competed this weekend in the 1st UIL State Championship at the University of Texas Arlington and placed second out of 77 teams in the band dance division and 10th in the cheer division. The team had some great performances. Congratulations cheerleaders!

SOCCER: The Boys Varsity Soccer Team played against Texas City on Friday night and tied the game 1-1. Daniel Eke scored for the longhorns off an assist from Christian Metoyer. The Girls Varsity team continued play in the I-10 tournament on Friday. Despite losing 2-0 to the Katy Taylor Lady Mustangs, the Longhorns battled back on Saturday in the cold and rain to win 1-0 over Clear Falls off of a Jordan Shimaitis goal. Outstanding play came from Sydney Heikkila, Ariana Salazar, and Tayler Jaseck. The JV girls also participated in the Alief ISD tournament this past weekend despite losing a heartbreaking 5-3 shootout loss on Thursday the girls battle back winning 1-0 Friday over the Hastings Lady Bears with a goal by Dany Torres. The girls then played Saturday morning for the consolation final winning 3-0 over the Taylor Lady Lions with goals from Emma Carlson, Rae Mai, and Noely Hernandez. The girls will play at home on Friday versus La Porte. Come out and support your Longhorns!!

SOFTBALL:  If you are planning to try out for softball for the 2016 season, stop by room 2006 or 1316 and speak to Coach Arlund or Coach Vrba. Tryouts are January 22 and 23.

TRACK:  Attention to all girls and boys track parents, Wednesday, January 20th at 6:00- 7:00 pm will be a mandatory parent meeting held in the GRHS auxiliary gymnasium. Please plan to be there as pertinent information will be given out in regards to the 2016 season. Look forward to seeing all of you there.
