Everyday has a unique importance, many times more than just one, some quirky and cute, and some deep and meaningful. Here is a review of this week’s upcoming days, courtesy of National Day Calendar.
Sunday, February 4th:
National Create a Vacuum Day
This isn’t talking about your cleaning vacuum; this is referring to “a space entirely devoid of all matter.” One way of making a simple vacuum is by plugging the open end of a syringe, and pulling the other side, which makes the inside of it nearly empty of matter, besides much smaller particles.
National Homemade Soup Day
National Thank a Mail Carrier Day
Monday, February 5th:
National Shower With a Friend Day
This silly sounding day is used to spread awareness on the harmful effects of chlorine, claimed by New Wave Enviro in July 2014.
National Weatherperson’s Day
World Nutella Day
Ready to have an excuse to just eat Nutella all day? Me too.
Tuesday, February 6th:
National Frozen Yogurt Day
National Lame Duck Day
Found out the hard way that this is NOT referring to ugly ducklings, but is instead a political term used to recognize the ratification of the 20th amendment. A “lame duck” is any current political figure who lost a re-election, chose not to participate in another term, couldn’t run for re-election due to term limits, and/or holds a position that has been terminated.
Wednesday, February 7th:
National Girls and Women in Sports Day
This one isn’t a specific number date, but is rather celebrated the first Wednesday of February. It began when Ronald Reagan announced the day on February 4, 1987, and is in recognition for all the ladies who do sports.
National Fettuccine Alfredo Day
National Periodic Table Day
National Send a Card to a Friend Day
This one’s just cute and I really want to see people starting to recognize not only their significant others on V-Day, but also their close friends on this day.
Thursday, February 8th:
National Iowa Day
National Boy Scouts Day
This is celebrated on the 8th as an anniversary of the day William Dickson Boyce filed the letters of incorporation for Boy Scouts.
National Kite Flying Day
Friday, February 9th:
National No One Eats Alone Day
Beyond Differences began this day in 2012, and it’s now celebrated every second Friday of February. It’s self explanatory, but still an important concept; no one should have to eat by themselves at lunch.
National Bagel Day
National Pizza Day
National Toothache Day
Saturday, February 10th:
National Cream Cheese Brownie Day
Maybe it’s just me, but I love days that give me a reason the embrace that hard to resist sin called Gluttony.
National Home Warranty Day
National Umbrella Day
