Wrestling:

The state qualifiers from the Longhorn wrestling team traveled to Dallas to compete in the 2014 UIL state wrestling championships on Feb. 14 and 15. The Longhorns battled some fierce competition and were not able to come home with any medals. The Longhorns finished the season by sweeping all district titles, finishing 4th (girls) and 6th (boys) in the region and taking more wrestlers to state than last year.

Golf:

The boys varsity golf 1st team shot season low scores of 312 on Monday at Fort Bend Country Club and Tuesday at Weston Lakes to finish in a tie with 2013 3A state qualifier El Campo but came up short on the first playoff hole to finish second. The Longhorns fought back from a 13 shot first day deficit to force the playoff. Will Ward finished in second place overall with his 79 on day one and school-record tying even par 72 on day two. Zach Mull 75-80, Paul Ferrette 85-79, Marcus Lopez 78-81, and Zane Warren 80-86 rounded out the scoring. The varsity second team finished in 4th place as a team with its 324-355. Manuel Londono led the way with his 82-80. Bobby Vega, Drew Hartman, Ross Johansen, and Brian Noh rounded out the team.

The Boys Golf Team traveled to River Pointe Golf Course Tuesday. The team of Adam Garza, Lance Ferguson, Trey French, and Justin Cochran finished 7th with a team score of 364 with Garza shooting a team low 84. The second team of Matthew Mills, Chase Walker, Jack Weaver, and Zach Gilbert finished 10th with a team score of 369 with Mills shooting a team low 82.

Softball:

Cienna Cantu went 1-3, sparking JV Longhorn Softball to a 3-0 victory in six innings over Needville on Tuesday at Needville. The Longhorns went up for good in the second, scoring one run on an RBI double by Larissa Eversole. George Ranch scored one run in the fifth inning, and then followed it up with one more in the sixth. The Longhorns ‘s London Diller kept Needville off the scoreboard for all six innings she was on the hill. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out eight.

Soccer:

The varsity boys soccer team beat Marshall 1-0 last night here at the ranch. Daniel Eke scored the goal on an assist from Eric Duesterhoft. The defense of Conar Cabucio, Luke Hogaboom, James Poche, Mario Padron, and Yassine Kettani played well in the shut out win. Mitchell Mercado earned his second shut out of the year in the goal for the Horns, The Longhorns play Willowridge Friday at 7:00 here at George Ranch.

The girls soccer team traveled to Marshall to take on the Lady Buffs. The girls won a decisive game scoring 9 goals on the night. Julia Linton and Michelle Mills both scored two goals on the night. Emma Elkins, Allyson Dernehl, Gabby Galvan, Shreya Desai and Taty Herrera all added one goal. This game secured the girls a playoff birth with 5 games left in district play! The Longhorns will travel to Willowridge on Friday.

Basketball:

The Boy’s Basketball team fell to Texas City in the first round of playoffs by a score of 48-67. The team came out strong in the 1st half, but fell behind early in the 2nd and couldn’t get back over the hump. The team was led by Chris Oliver’s great ball handling and Lennox Jones’ great energy. Thanks to all of the seniors for 4 great years in the program.
