JV – The JV Maroon baseball team defeated Texas City in their first game of the LCISD JV Baseball Tournament on Thursday with a score of 8-1. Colsin Kostelnik picked up the win pitching 4 innings and giving up only 2 hits and 1 run. Will Loyd pitched in relief throwing 2 shutout innings and striking out 2 batters. Joseph Menefee led the team offensively reaching base four times in four plate appearances, recording 2 hits and an RBI. The team won in true team fashion with 10 different players either scoring or recording a RBI. The JV Maroon baseball team finished the LCISD JV Baseball Tournament with a 3-1 record, beating St. Pius 4-3, Kempner 3-2, and dropping their Saturday game to Oak Ridge 6-8. Brad Armstrong picked up the win against St. Pius striking out 6 in 4 innings and giving up only 1 run, while Dallen D’Ambra picked up the save closing out the game in the 7th. Joseph Menefee picked up the win against Kempner striking out 9 batters in 5 innings, while Ty Abraham came in to face the minimum of 6 batters over 2 innings and striking out 5. Zach Holtzhuter led the offense hitting 2 doubles, recording 4 RBIs, with 3 runs scored over the weekend. Ryan Finnegan added 3 hits on 4 plate appearances, and Josh Le Fevre added 3 RBIs on the weekend. The team plays Strake Jesuit at home on Monday night and then travels to Columbus on Thursday for their second tournament of the year.

Varsity – The Varsity Longhorn baseball team traveled to the Woodlands Tournament this weekend to open up their 2015 season. A slow start for the Longhorns left them with a 2-3 record on the weekend. The Longhorns lost to Klein Collins and the Woodlands on Thursday, but came back on Friday to beat Klein Oak 3-1 with Sarah Hudek earning the win on the mound. Hudek had 4 1/3 innings allowing 1 unearned run on 4 hits and 2 strikeouts. With a loss to Langham Creek on Friday, the team headed back to the Woodlands on Saturday to defeat Kincaid 4-1. This time Bradley Greer pitched the complete game to get the win. Greer allowed 1 unearned run on 5 hits and 4 strikeouts. Brady Burns had 2 stellar defensive plays to help solidify the win, as well as leading the offense by going 5 for 14 with a double. Mitchell North also contributed to the offense with a 5 for 15 performance for the weekend. Garrett Gray added a 2-run homerun, Kevin Kopps contributed a triple, while Dylan Rock had a double. The Longhorns will travel to Strake Jesuit tonight to take on the Crusaders at 6:00pm.
