GOLF:  The top two Varsity boys golf teams took first and fourth place in the twelve team FBISD Invitational. The first team scored a 3 shot victory over Memorial High School with a team scores of 318-320. The second Varsity finished fourth with team scores of 332-350. Marcus Lopez took the individual title with rounds of 75-71, which is 2 over par for the event. Drew Hartman‘s round 2 score of 76 was the second best round of the tournament on Saturday. Members of the first team are Marcus Lopez, Chris Lopez, Matthew Maier, Zane Warren, and Adam Garza. Playing on the second varsity were Drew Hartman, Hunter Breeze, Jack Weaver, Nick Nguyen, and Thomas Kuznar.

LACROSSE:  The Lacrosse team won their first official game against Atascocita, 8 to 4. Goals were scored by Christian Bass, Jackson DeFrayne, Brayden Turner, and Reed Schnitger. Jacob Wheat, Reed Schnitger and Brayden Turner were credited wth assists. A strong defensive effort shut down Atascocita’s offense led by Gavin Hunter, Brad Boubel, Kevin Singleton and Magnum Cates; anchored by Thomas Thaxton in goal.

The GRHS Longhorn Lacrosse team won their second game this past Saturday, 5 to 4, in a close battle against Richmond Travis Tigers. Goals were scored by Brayden Turner, Evan Ameen, Reed Schnitger, and Christian Bass. Jackson DeFrayne, Christian Bass, Brayden Turner and our goalie Thomas Thaxton were credited with assists. Strong defensive effort led by Thomas Thaxton, Michael Payne, Magnum Cates, Bradford Boubel and Gavin Hunter. And, a great effort from our middie line standouts – Graysen Watson, Jacob Wheat and David Solomonte. Way to go Longhorns! Their next scheduled game is on Saturday, February 13, at Strake vs their JV Green team, at noon.

SOCCER:  The Girls Soccer Team took on the Lady Mustangs of College Park on Friday night. The JV girls finished with a 1-1 tie after Rae Mai finished a Emma Carlson cross. KK Hydo played big in the goal stopping a PK. Jessica Torres and Ashley Vega played solid defense as well. The varsity girls dropped a 1-0 game to the Lady Mustangs, despite many close shots that hit of the post. Great hustle play Clare Valdez, Riley Murray, and Sydney Heikkila. The Girls open up district play on Friday when they host the Lamar Lady Mustangs.

SWIM:  On Saturday the GRHS boys and girls swim teams took 2nd at the district swim and dive meet. Individual winners were David Kvinta in the 200 I IM and Kate Hartman in the 100 backstroke. Leann Anderson, Lindsey Bone, Allyson Bradley, Gemini Chancoco, Stella Cunningham, Dominic Daughtry, Jacob Gamble, Jack Greene, Ryan Grote, Charlotte Johansen, Sarah Kinzner, Kyle Krush, Micheal Kurmadas, Mark Kvinta, Graciela LIang, Jacob Liang, Elizabeth Markee, Kellee Meyers, Luis Mueller, Aaron Oreilly, Camp Priest, Rachel Reed, Gabriela Salazar, and Kathryn Voelkel all contributed by placing top 8 and scoring for GRHS. 6 relays and 32 swims have advanced to the regional meet this weekend.

TENNIS:  On Friday the GRHS Varsity tennis team opened season at the Katy ISD tournament. This tournament was full of state ranked teams. Although the Longhorns did not medal, they advance dead in many of the draws. Rachel Dziuk and Alessandra Jara lost in the A girls doubles quarter finals. Cassie Chen (in girls B singles), Will Blanco (in boys B singles) and Joey Ballone and An Nguyen (in boys A doubles) all lost in the consolation finals. The Longhorns will be in action again this Friday at the Wharton ISD tournament.
