National days of the week 11/14 – 11/18

There is a national day each and every day of the year. Here are the national days of this week.

Monday: National Pickle Day

The term pickle comes from the Dutch word “pekel,” meaning brine. In the United States, the word pickle typically refers to a pickled cucumber. There are many different kinds of pickles including Dill, Gherkin, Cornichon, Brined, Lime, and much more.

Tuesday: National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day

The timing of this day is perfect when Thanksgiving Day is approaching. This day was created by the home economists at Whirlpool Home Appliances in 1999.

Wednesday: National Button Day

This day is celebrated for all of the button collectors around the world. People around the world sort and play many different games with the thousands of buttons people have collected over the years.

Thursday: National Take A Hike Day

There is over 60,000 miles of trails in the National Trail System across the 50 states. There are multiple different events around the country that are scheduled to celebrate Take a Hike Day.

Friday: National Vichyssoise Day

Recipes similar to Vichyssoise soup taking as far as 1869. Vichyssoise soup is made thick with pureed leeks, onions, potatoes, cream and chicken stock and typically served cold, sometimes eaten hot.
