NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. This writing occasion was started online 18 years ago and has only gained more steam since then. This month is a great way for anyone and everyone to begin writing that story they’ve always dreamed about or just join in for fun! Anyone can join through the website or just keep track of their progress at home.

This month was created 18 years ago by Chris Baty. He started the nonprofit project in 1999 and moved it to November a year later. He made a website and as years went on more and more people signed up until NaNoWriMo became the occasion it is today.

Many acclaimed works have been written during NANoWriMo including The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern which won an Alex award from the American Library Association, The Compound by  Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen which was awarded the 2009 Bank Street Award for Best Children’s Book of the Year, and many others.

Making an account on the website is very beneficial to the writer and the steps to signing up are easy. Upon registering, a user can earn badges for their progress, use resources through the website for information, and claim a win by November 20th.
