Lady Longhorn varsity softball dominates tournament

In the first game of the LCISD Invitational on Thursday, Feb. 28, Sealy High School was unable to fight back from a large deficit and lost 8-7 to George Ranch after falling behind by seven runs in the fifth inning. Sealy scored six runs in the sixth on two three-run blasts, however, they weren’t able to take the lead back. Ashley Kopps hit a home run out of the park in the third inning and Brittney Morse racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Lady Longhorns. Morse also hit a home run in the third inning and doubled in the fifth inning. The Longhorns added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Morse hit a double, scoring senior Jaylin Baldridge and junior Roxy Weinle, followed by another double by Emily Rimes, bringing home Stephanie Money and Morse.

Then in the final game of the evening, the Longhorns shut down Fort Bend Austin, capturing a 12-2 victory with eight runs in the first three innings. An RBI double by Stephanie Money, an RBI triple by Brittney Morse in the first inning, a two-run home run by Reagan Coss and a two-run double by Morse during the second inning fueled George Ranch’s offense early. Coss racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Longhorns.

The Lady Longhorns take on Bush High School on Friday, March 1 at 5 P.M.
