Who knew an app that was solely made for fun, would benefit millions of people in many ways?
TikTok was created in 2017 to offer users a chance to create and edit videos and share them with their friends. Near the end of 2018, the app started to become popular as people began to discover the fascinating app. The main audience for this media platform average from thirteen to twenty-four-year-olds.
One of the main reasons why TikTok became very captivating to users was because anyone was able to become viral. TikTok is open to everyone, giving mainly the LGBTQ+ community, people of color, and anyone else who needs it a chance to express their true selves.

The algorithm can be completely random as different people appear on what is known as the “For You Page.” Many individuals desire to become viral, hoping to receive “the hype,” considering the fact that many famous TikTokers obtain a large fan base.
“To me, TikTok is a great source of entertainment for everyone,” said Skylar Brandt.
Moreover, the app allows for “ordinary” people to interact with other famous artists, well-known celebs, or even to build their own platform. Video genres range from comedy, artistic, informational, and various others such as “POVs” [Point of Views]—a crowd favorite.
Most participants have been known to create weird and crazy trends, some of which end up being controversial. Some famous TikTokers that broke the internet and shot to fame include Charli D’amelio, Addison Rae, and Michael Le.
“TikTok is a very monumental application. It has impacted me in many ways, it’s something that many people can learn from and something truly inspirational to the younger generations,” stated Ethan McGinty.
People finally have the opportunity to be known, as the app provides a framework for content creators as well as future influencers.
“TikTok has allowed me to feel more confident in who I am as a person, because I can visibly see that there are many others who have the same qualities and insecurities as me,” said Angela Gonzales.
This app encourages people be self-assured and confident for who they are, giving people a positive outlook on things. Who can argue with that?
