Week+6+Sports+Report

By Julian Munoz, Sports Writer

Howdy Longhorns! Welcome back to the sixth week of the Longhorn Sports Report. We had an action-packed week this past week and we’re here to cover it all.

Starting with Longhorns Football, George Ranch took on the Ridge Point Panthers last Friday night and suffered a devastating 61-0 loss. There is not much to go over from this game. Kevin Odikpo (SR) got an interception on the first play of the game. Other than that, there were no other highlights to talk about.  The Longhorns look to bounce back against FB Bush High School at 11 am Saturday, October 8th, at Mercer Stadium.

Lady Longhorn Volleyball had three matches this past week, posting a 2-1 record with wins over FB Clements (3-0) and FB Austin (3-2); they lost a close match, 3-2, against FB Travis.  Riley Steubing (SR), Erynn Rainer (SR), and Madison Herrera (JR) won POTM for their respective matches in order listed earlier.  The Lady Longhorns take on with Ridge Point, on October 7th,  looking for revenge from their matchup earlier this season.

Longhorn Tennis blew out FB Elkins in the last match of the regular season,18-1, securing a spot in the 20-6A UIL Playoffs. Congratulations to our Longhorn Tennis Players and Coaches on a spectacular 2022 season!

Our Longhorns girls and boys cross-country teams were invited to the Nike South Invitational in The Woodlands. The ladies finished 7th out of 21 schools participating. A huge congrats to Sophia Nguyen who broke the girls school record with a 17:54.4 5K! On the boys’ side, Travis Morrey finished 14th out of a field of more than 450 runners! He continues to star for this XC Program.

That wraps up the Longhorn Sports Report for this week.  Check back next week where we will go over what happens next.
