Howdy Longhorns! Welcome back to the Longhorn Sports Report. This week we say goodbye to the fall season and look forward to an action-packed winter.

The GRHS Longhorns Football season has come to an end after a heartbreaking 49-14 loss to Cinco Ranch in the first round of the 2022 UIL State playoffs. The Longhorns ended the year at 6-5 overall and 6-2 in District 20-6a play. Deion Drinkard (JR) ended his first season as QB1 with 8 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. Jaden Shelton (JR) provided most of the Longhorn’s offense averaging around 100 yards a game and logging 6 rushing touchdowns himself. Gregor Jones (SR) ended his final season of High School football with 5 receiving touchdowns. Joe Muckelroy (SR) led the team in average receiving yards at 39.4 yds/game. This season the Longhorns bounced back from a extremely disappointing season in 2021 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2020.  To all of the seniors that put their pads on for the last time, thank you for all the memories.

George Ranch Boys Basketball tipped off their season with a 53-49 victory over Katy High School. The Longhorns move on to face 1-0 Manvel High School who defeated fellow Longhorns foe FB Clements. Lets go Longhorns!

Lady Longhorn Basketball have played 7 more games since last we wrote this report, logging a 3-4 record in those games, creating a 4-4 non-district record.  In their latest matchup they beat Cypress Park 41-10.  The Lady Longhorns host the Dobie High School Longhorns Tuesday night in the last non-district game before District 20-6a play begins for the ’22-’23 season.

That is it for this week. We wish all our Longhorn athletes’ good luck in any upcoming matches.  Lets Go Longhorns!
