Howdy Longhorns! Welcome back to the eighth rendition of the Spring Longhorn Sports Report. This was another packed week with a ton of success here at GR. Lets dive into it starting with Longhorns Baseball and well wrap it up with GRHS Track.

Coach Kobza’s Varsity squad was rained out Thursday night against FB Austin but made it up Monday night. The ‘Horns lost 8-7 after allowing a controversial run in the bottom of the sixth to fall behind.  Junior Cody Ford was lights out going 2-3 with 2 doubles and scored the game tying run in the top of the sixth thanks to an error by the Bulldogs. The Longhorns bounced back with a solid 8-2 win over FB Travis thanks to stellar pitching from Senior Johnathan Canter.  The lefty pitched 6 2/3 innings only allowing 2 runs while racking up 9 strikeouts. Cody Ford led the team in RBIs driving in two in the sixth. Longhorns sit at 7-4 tied with FB Austin for second place in 20-6A. Longhorns start the next week of games with the biggest game of the season when they travel to Ridge Point to take on the undefeated Panthers on Friday, April 14th. Following that they face FB Bush at 2 pm Saturday, April 15th at The Ranch and finish off the week facing FB Hightower Tuesday, April 18th. Good luck boys!

Coach Witt’s Lady Longhorns Softball extended their streak to ten wins in a row! They did it on back-to-back run rules over FB Bush (16-0) and FB Hightower (15-0). Kamryn Radford, Jesyca Johnston, Mariah Garner, Karrlauhn Deas, Kate Dolan, and Abby Bergeon all knocked ones over the fence over the two games. These wins have the Lady Longhorns tied for second with FB Travis locked at 12-2. They look to make it 11 straight when they host FB Dulles Friday, April 14th, on Senior Night.

Coach Noonan’s Varsity Mixed Doubles team of  Santiago Allub and Charlize Wilson placed in District and advanced to the UIL Regional round Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll update y’all on their path to glory next week.

The Longhorn Girls and Boys Track teams competed in the UIL District meet this week; we’ll update y’all on their progress next week as well.

That wraps up another successful week of sports! We’ll be back next week right here on the Longhorn Sports Report!
