It seems that when true love comes in to your life, you begin to stop making yourself seem known to people and being in the popular crowd doesn’t seem as desirable anymore.

Landon Carter (Shane West) was the big man on campus at Beaufort High School until an unexpected tragedy happened to one of his peers. He was accused of the accident and was punished with community service hours, which lead him to working with the nerd of the school, Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore).

Over time, they both saw the best in each other and began to fall for each other even though Carter lost his social status because of this. When his friends play a mean trick on Jamie to get their friend back, Landon is tested to prove who means the most to him. It all comes down to either popularity or love.
