Ms. Rose Causey is a new English I teacher here at George Ranch. The Wrangler sat down with her to talk about her decision to be a teacher.

The Wrangler: What made you want to start teaching?

Causey: I went to college to be a teacher. Upon graduating, however, I began to work at a hospital for the federal government. I enjoyed helping veterans and worked there for over 8 years.  Never desiring to be someone who did not finish what she started, one summer I looked into what I would need to do in order to obtain my teaching certificate. Turns out that all I had left to do was student teach. I began my student teaching with the idea of simply finishing up a certificate program that I had begun a decade earlier. What I did not anticipate was just how much I was going to enjoy it. I absolutely loved the students! I student taught 9th grade, English I PAP and Academic. I still worked during this time, so I would teach all day and then work until midnight at the hospital. Some nights I only got about 3 hours of sleep. It was tough, but definitely worth it.  Teaching is by no means an easy profession. It is not something to enter into lightly. I could be doing anything else right now and possibly be making more money. I teach because I feel it is what I am meant to do. I teach because I like the students. (Shhhh, don’t let my student know about that last bit.)

The Wrangler: Where were you before you came to George Ranch?

Causey: I worked in the Texas Medical Center at the VA hospital as an inpatient pharmacy technician.

The Wrangler: What made you choose George Ranch?

Causey: I wanted to work for LCISD after hearing such positive things about the district. I bought a house in the district last January and knew this is where I wanted to be. When George Ranch offered me the job, I was super excited. While all of the high schools in the district are awesome, I was excited to become a member of the very best!

The Wrangler: What have been the best things about being a teacher at George Ranch?

Causey: Perhaps the very best thing about being a teacher at George Ranch is the students! It is such a privilege to get to work with so many interesting, gifted, intelligent and talented young people each day.
