Are you spirited and love to cheer on your George Ranch Longhorns? If so, this message is for you! Cheerleader and Mascot Tryout Packets are available at the student service window. There will be a mandatory parent/candidate meeting on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 6:30pm in the LGI.

Scores:

Soccer:

JV Boys Soccer team lost Friday night to Foster with a score of 0 to 2. They play Willowridge next Friday. The girls soccer team travel to Foster Friday night to take on the Falcons. The JV squad took to the squad to field first and pushed the pace of the game early and defeated the Falcons 3-0. Cerenitte Adams scored 2 goals and Gabby Galvan added a goal on the night. Rachel Buchanan keep the net clean with solid defensive play from Kendall Bess and Lucy Perez.The Varsity Team played an exciting match against the Lady Falcons. The girls took a 1 goal lead on Foster when Ally Dernehl crossed a low ball to Haley Hartnett who finished it to the back of the net. The Longhorns held on to the 1 goal lead to win the game 1-0. Michelle Mills kept the net clean, by collecting 18 saves on the night. Excellent play came from Kathryn Thaxton, Colleen Janecek, Raven Towns, and Madeline Bares. This game ended the first round of district play with a 5-1 record sitting in Second Place.

Softball:

JV Softball lost 4-2 against the Katy Tigers Friday night. Katy jumped ahead in the first inning. Two runs in the bottom of the third helped Longhorns close its deficit to 3-1. An RBI single by Larissa Eversole set off George Ranch rally.

Lauran Chubon, Ashlyn Hartfiel and Parker McCarley added to the offensive surge but time was called. Varsity Softball makes the most of 7 hits in 2-1 victory over Katy. The Longhorns and Katy both had scoring chances on Friday, but it was George Ranch that was able to capitalize on them as it pulled out the win at the Longhorn Field. Katy got 12 hits compared with just 7 for George Ranch, but Katy stranded 13 on base. The game was scoreless until the Longhorns broke the ice with one run in the fourth. George Ranch scored on an RBI single by Madison McDonald. Stephanie Money racked up one RBIs on one hit for the Longhorns with a triple in the seventh inning to win the game.

Madison McDonald knocked in three runs, helping the Longhorns to a 6-1 victory over Jersey Village on Saturday at Katy Invitational. She homered in the fifth inning. Jersey Village couldn’t get anything going so long as London Diller was on the hill. Diller gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during her four innings of work. George Ranch Longhorns went up for good in the third, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Alyssa Curts and a sacrifice fly by Madison. In the fourth, the Longhorns scored on a two-run home run by Brianna Dixson, scoring Lupita Nowak Klein was unable to fight back from the big hole it dug itself into against George Ranch Longhorns, and Klein lost 3-2 to George Ranch Longhorns after falling behind by two runs in the third inning. Klein couldn’t get anything going as long as Alexis Tovar was pitching. Tovar gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during her three innings of work. The bottom of the first saw the Longhorns take an early lead, 1-0. A single by Madison McDonald, plating Kayte Martinez started the inning off. Also contributing to the offensive surge during the game were Stephanie Money, Alexis Tovar, Alyssa Curts and Natasha Cabucio. In the final game for the weekend, George Ranch lost 2-1 in six innings despite outhitting Mayde Creek seven to four. Natasha Cabucio boosted her batting average going 2-3 day at the plate to pace George Ranch. She singled in the second and sixth innings. Stephanie Money, Emily Rimes and Madison McDonald all contributed to the offense. On the mound, Madison McDonald baffled Mayde Creek, striking out five batters. Madison allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk over five innings.

Golf:

On Monday, the Boys JV Golf team traveled to Sugar Creek Country Club. Representing George Ranch were Connor Rodriguez, Travis Barnett, Tyler Massey, Casey Knodel, and Lex Tydlacka. The boys battled hard but came up short of placing with Massey bringing in the best score for the team with a 91.

Baseball:

The JV Maroon baseball team defeated Westfield in its home opener on Monday night by a score of 25-0. A great team effort secured the win for the Longhorns. The JV Maroon team will hit the road this Friday for a double header at 4:30 and 7:00 against Strake Jesuit.

The Longhorn Varsity Baseball team began their season last night by traveling to Spring Westfield and came away with an 17-0 victory in 5 innings. Kevin Kopps went the distance on the mound without giving up a single hit and striking out 13 of the 17 batters he faced. Kopps had offensive support from Cameron Boudreaux, Grant Page, Stone Garrett, and Kyle Owen who each had multiple hits. Boudreaux and Will Gay had a triple while Page and Owen each had a double. The Longhorns travel to the Woodlands on Thursday to take on Langham Creek and The Woodlands in the Highlander Varsity Classic.

Track:

The Boys Track and Field traveled to Katy Tompkins High School to compete in the Bubba Fife Relays. The team finished sixth in a field of twenty six teams. The first points of the year was scored by Chandler Heikkila with a fifth place finish in the 3200 meters. The sprint medley team of Tylen Guidry, Xavian Marks, Ethan Yeaman, and Jordan Janer brought home the bronze medal while the 4 by 200 meter of Ethan Yeaman, Torin Marks, Tylen Guidry, and Xavian Marks finished fifth. Jordan Janer finished fourth in the 1600 meters. Tylen Guidry brought home the silver medal in the triple jump. The high point boy’s athlete was Xavian Marks. The GRHS track team competed at Bubbda Fife relays in Katy Texas over the weekend. The girls placed 16th out of 24 teams. The top finisher and scorer for the team was Otito Omeludike with her 3rd place finish in the girls long jump. The girls compete at Seven Lakes on Saturday to continue pressing forward through the season.
