Slackers

Da Vinci painted people beautiful
No dirty clothes, grey skies, or protruding rib cages – just rosy cheeks and full stomachs
“Picasso took apart the world and put the pieces in all the wrong places
So it was impossible to see the big picture unless you understood his world
I guess every artist paints the world the way they want to see it

If I was an artist I wouldn’t paint English tests and scantron answer sheets
Because I’m a slacker and slackers don’t do work
If I was an artist I wouldn’t paint time limits on potential
Because I’m a slacker and slackers are never punctual
If I was an artist I wouldn’t paint thousands of featureless faces
Because I’m a slacker and slackers experience enough insignificance

Michelangelo sculpted dignity into lifeless plaster people
So he didn’t have to see the poverty of the world surrounding him
But Van Gogh painted his pain in pictures
Because the world he lived in became the only one he could imagine
I guess every artist tries to paint the world they want to see it

If I was an artist I would paint meaning into every word spoken
Because I’m a slacker and slackers don’t waste effort
If I was a artist I would make everything bright – yellow, red, or green
Because I’m a slacker and slackers like pretty colors
If I was an artist I would paint bright eyes, smiling faces, meaning on everyone
Because I’m a slacker and slacker experience enough insignificance
